IJP INTERNATIONALE JOURNALISTEN-­‐‑PROGRAMME

IJP offers a unique opportunity for 3-4 talented journalists working in:

The People’s Republic of China/Hongkong, Taiwan, Indonesia as well as the Philippines, to come to Germany in May and June 2015. At the same time 3-4 German journalists will work as fellows in Asia.

IJP is a German NGO sponsoring fellowships for journalists from 10 regions of the world. Our funding comes from national foundations, the German industry, private sponsors and the foreign office of the Federal Republic.

The successful candidates will get the chance to work for one month at a media branch of his/her choice. The first month of the stay includes language lessons, training sessions and guided research trips in Germany. The mandatory language course to brush up existing German language knowledge is organized at the Goethe-Institute in Berlin.

The fellowship will offer a lump sum of Euro 3.600,-. With this allowance the fellow has to cover travelling expenses to Germany, international health insurance, housing as well as daily living costs.

To qualify, the applicant should be between 28 to 38 years of age, have a minimum of 5 years experience in print and/or on-line journalism or TV/Radio broadcasting.

He/She should currently be working as full time journalist in the above mentioned countries, should be fluent in English (TOEFL) and have at least a basic command of the German language.

How to enter:

Please write a 1000 word essay addressing the following topics:

  • Why you would like to work in Germany

  • What you expect from the IJP fellowship and what you think you can

contribute to it

  • How your background, experiences and interests reflect what you want to do

as journalist

  • What role you expect to play at your home media in the future

  • What are the 3 research topics/projects you want to pursue during the

fellowship

  • Include a one-page resume detailing your education and work experience,

your standard of German and English (copies of certificates/ e.g. Goethe Institute and /or TOEFL), plus 3 copies of articles written by you (and if possible published in English)

  • A journalistic reference from your editor or head of department is required. It should support your application and also guarantee your leave of absence for the duration of the program

  • Enclose a passport photograph into your CV and do not forget your signature!

Deadline for application is November 30th, 2014. Legal action in respect of the final decision shall be barred. Notification will be sent to the successful candidates by January 15th, 2015.
