Lindsay Lohan Tried to Say ‘You’re Beautiful’ in Arabic. She Said ‘You’re a Donkey’ Instead
Lindsay Lohan tried to post “You’re beautiful” in Arabic on Instagram but accidently wrote, “You’re a donkey.” She’s hardly the first idiot to try to go deep and get ruined by human error—we are all Lindsay Lohans now.
Lindsay Lohan thinks you’re beautiful. Or that you’re a donkey. It really depends.
Earlier today, the former It Girl logged on to Instagram and posted an image of bold text against a floral pattern reminiscent of your Granny’s favorite wallpaper.
“You’re beautiful,” the message reads in English. The Arabic translates to “You’re a donkey.”
Oh, Lindsay.
Of course, it’s safe to assume that Lindsay’s message is a simple mistranslation error and not a coded barnyard callout.
And Lindsay is hardly the first celebrity to fail at Google Translate—mistranslated tattoos litter the arms and legs of our most famous men and women. David Beckham attempted to pay tribute to his glorious wife Victoria by tattooing her name in Sanskrit on his arm. He ended up with “Vihctoria” instead.
Sanskrit also defeated Rihanna—she wanted “forgiveness” on her side and ended up with some beautifully rendered gibberish. Britney Spears suffered a Freudian-esque error when she thought she tried to decorate her hip with the Chinese character for “mysterious” and instead got “strange.”
My personal favorite is poor Hayden Panettiere and her back tattoo. She wanted “live without regrets” but unfortunately, mangled the translation and ended up with one ‘I’ too many. At the time of her inking, she laughed off the mistake, citing her motto of living without regrets. She has reportedly gotten it fixed now.
I can’t blame her, but I almost wish she hadn’t—there’s something delightful about regretting the typo in your “no regrets” tattoo, something appealingly human about attempting to go deep and profound—and being rendered goofy by spelling. Who hasn’t been there? We are, as people, capable of great truth and stupidity, of being both beautiful and total donkeys. We are all Lindsay Lohan’s Instagram fails now.
