Watch Prince Harry Play a Gardener in His Acting Debut
It has been quite a week for royal obsessives: Kate made her grand return to the public sphere, after a quiet summer on maternity leave—with a new hairstyle to boot. And Harry made his grand return to the public sphere, after a quiet summer traveling in Africa—with a new hairstyle to boot. (Oh, and William got a haircut, too!)
As if any additional royal-related excitement was necessary, all three of ‘em—Harry, William, and Kate—ventured out for some Friday night revelry today, as the trio attended the opening ceremony of the Rugby World Cup. Kate—whose bangs appear to have been slightly revised from their earlier-in-the-week iterations—wore a bright blue Reiss coat to the event, and she looked relaxed and calm, whispering to William and laughing demonstratively (does anyone laugh as demonstratively as Kate while still managing to simultaneously look utterly cool and collected?).

But the show was stolen, as it were, by the Cinnamon Prince himself, as the newly bearded Harry, in a blue suit, addressed the crowd, and also appeared in a pre-taped clip (up at the top of this post) that ran during the ceremony, in which Harry plays an 1823 gardener who doubts that rugby will “ever take off.”
Though his screen time is unfortunately restricted to a mere few seconds (feel free to skip to 2:15, which is when he comes on), Harry acquits himself quite well! He really commits to the raking, and on a scale from Wooden to Meryl Streep, he is at “Bartender with One Line on an ABC Family Show,” which is better than you might expect for a prince with no prior acting experience!
