In the video, published by University of Southern California journalism majors Barbara Estrada and Taylor Villanueva, a Colombian woman and an Ethiopian woman are asked to say words like "sugar" and "guitar" out loud, discovering that their native languages are much more alike than either of them had ever imagined.
For instance, when asked to say blouse, the two shout "blusa" (Spanish) and "bloosa" (Arabic), pronounced almost identically.
According to the video, the Moors, nomadic people from North Africa, brought Arabic with them during the invasion of Spain, and helped influence the Spanish language.
