Javanese children tell The Christmas Story in shadow puppet play
Young Javanese children rehearse traditional instruments and practice the ancient art of shadow puppetry for a play about the story of Christmas. The children perform a form of shadow puppetry known as wayang wahyu, which mixes traditional Javanese culture and Catholicism. It was developed in the 1960s by a puppet master to teach religion through shadow puppet plays. During the show the puppets are seen on stage along with their shadows.
