Dede Koswara 'Tree Man' dies on January 30, 2016
An Indonesian dubbed 'Tree Man' because of massive bark-like warts all over his body has died. According to Metro.co.uk, Dede Koswara succumbed to health problems including hepatitis, liver and gastric disorders on Jan 30.
Believed to be in his 40s, Koswara suffered from a rare disease known as Lewandowsky-Lutz dysplasia, which caused Koswara's hands and feet to be covered in more than 6kg of warts.
They were cut away in 2008, but rapidly grew back.
Koswara and his condition received widespread media attention, which included several feature-length documentaries highlighting his plight, reported Metro.co.uk.
His wife of 10 years reportedly left him after he couldn't support them and their two children.
Koswara was admitted into a hospital in Bandung City, Indonesia, three months before he died.
A 26-year-old Bangladeshi man was recently reported to be a sufferer of Lewandowsky-Lutz dysplasia, one of only three known cases so far in the world.
His symptoms first appeared 10 years ago, but he will soon be able to undergo surgery to remove the growths, which weigh at least 5kg.
